Two men playing the trumpet takes the centre stage in this painting by Charles Kamangwana. Loose visible brushstrokes break the background and create a sense of light and life in the work. Like much of Kamangwana’s work, the focus is not on the people as individuals, and as such he has simplified their facial features and hands, paying more attention to the musical instruments. He was very much inspired by local street life and his works often depict life caught in its moments of swing.
