This piece comes from Dordogne, southwestern France. An ornate antique, this clock has intricate and ornate inlays of bronze, and finely detailed carvings of horses, with the saint at the top. The region this clock comes from is famous for the Valley of a Thousand Chateauxs, where the war between the English and French was fought. As the wars continued, along with the French Revolution, the region saw a number of the great châteaux destroyed and many ransacked, their treasures stolen. Now the treasures have made their way back, and craftsmanship has been found once more in Dordogne as we see more of the elegant pieces making their journey to the far west, east, and south.
