Biedermeier Cupboard

Central Europe

1815-1848

Unknown

This simple yet elegant cupboard is a trademark of the Biedermeier Era. Its appeal was in its simplicity and its ability to appear in contemporary, adding a relaxed atmosphere in any home while remaining at the height of fashion. Biedermeier furniture also has a space in the modern home for that reason and evoke a little something of the past that hints to an Art Deco era and aperitif. This Biedermeier cupboard is fashioned from lighter wood, perhaps walnut, as was typical of that time, as darker woods like mahogany were too expensive for the up-and-coming bourgeoisie to afford. However, today this lighter wood serves as a modern finish in a home.
